lyrics

I woke up one autumn morning and stared out the window of my kitchen. The first early snow had fallen. I stepped out onto the porch to smell the cold morning air, see the dead leaves on the ground buried by the new frost.

I looked out at the forest and saw a tree move. Not the trees swaying with the wind, but a single birch vibrating. The white bark of the other trees blended with the falling snow, but this single birch moving, an intense and uncanny purple.

I moved with terror and purpose to grab my rifle from the truck, hoping this image would cease by the time I returned. But it was still there. Tearing into my eye like a cataract. Seeing nothing else I fired at the birch.

This turned out to be the most important day of my life...
